What is recorded here

Indicated is a collapsed stone ring on a Clare karst plateau, probably the coarse cashel Westropp measured in 1915. Its wall lies barely a yard high among rough pasture, yet the surviving inner and outer facing at the east end preserves the shape of a small house ring. People may have lived there, herded there or simply passed across the knoll of crag, leaving no name behind.

On a SW-facing slope on a gently undulating karst plateau in rough pasture, within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-001001-). Based on its location, this is probably the cashel described by Westropp (1915, 49) as ‘a small house ring, its wall coarsely built, and now barely a yard high, on a knoll of crag’. The cashel (int. dims. 21.5m N–S; 19.1m), subcircular in plan, is defined by a stone spread (Wth 1.7-3m), which is visible at the base of a now mostly collapsed low drystone wall (Wth 0.4-0.8m; H 0.4-.06m).
