Freestanding round-plan icehouse, set into hillside, built c.1860, having two-cell structure. Entrance projection to front (southeast) face. Uncoursed rubble stone walls. Square-headed openings to front and rear faces with stone flat arches and timber lintels, lacking doors. Situated on roadside.

This icehouse was apparently built by the Marquis of Conyngham for the storage of ice associated with a salmon fishery on the adjacent Abhainn Ghaoth Beara [Gweebarra River]: the marquis had exclusive fishing rights to the river. This is a well-built structure although it is now long disused and partly overgrown.

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
