What is recorded here

One half of a fort vanished before the second map was drawn, leaving only ghost lines on paper where stone once stood. The missing southwest edge suggests people wanted the ground back for fields, roads or forgetfulness. What remained may have been a hut, a heap of rubble or nothing at all. Meennascarty keeps its own counsel, changing shape until even memory becomes uncertain.

There is no visible trace of the circular enclosure KE036-029---- marked on the 1st edition of the OS map and titled 'Fort' on the Fair Plan. The depiction on the 2nd edition indicates that the SW half of the site had been removed by the late 19th century. It was located on level ground about 50m E of the Meennascarty river and about a half-mile S of Tralee Bay. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne.
