Hut site

What is recorded here

Hut site in Lecarrow (corran By., Cloonoghill Ed) is a hut site in Lecarrow (corran By., Cloonoghill Ed), County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies the eastern half inside a rath, touching the inner edge of the surrounding bank. A curved bank, 0.4 to 0.5 metres high, forms most of an 11 metre wide circle. The shape and position suggest a dwelling, though no wall, roof or living scene survives to prove that meaning.
In the E half of the interior of a rath (SL039-037001-), adjacent to the bank of the rath. An arc of a bank (H 0.4-0.5m) may be the remains of a hut site (diam. c. 11m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
