Hut site in Cooladine

Identified in centre-line testing (E4110) in advance of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme and set aside for resolution as a part of Cooladine 1 (Hardy et al. 2010, 6-7). It is situated on an undulating landscape sloping down slightly to the W where a SE-NW section of a small S-N stream is c. 70m to the SW. A curving slot-trench (Wth 0.45m; D 0.2m; L 8-10m plus) at the S end of the excavated area may have some structural post-holes on its line NW-NE-E but most of the interior was outside the excavated area to the SW. However, it could not be traced with remote sensing techniques. There are two post-holes in the interior, one of which would be central to the structure. The pottery suggests a Bronze Age date. About 65m to the N a possible four-post structure was identified through four post-holes in a square arrangement (dims 1.9-2m N-S; 1.9-2m E-W).
