Hut site in Ballymakellett

Hut site

What is recorded here

Three conjoined huts occupy the centre of a ringfort in Ballymakellett, County Louth. They form one compact domestic group rather than scattered remains. People likely lived, worked and shared heat inside that small circle while the surrounding earthwork watched them. The arrangement suggests intimacy, cooperation and repeated return to the same place.
