What is recorded here

Ballymakellett ringfort still holds the rectangular shadow of a small hut, its stone foundations measuring 4.7 metres and facing southeast through a gap wide enough for one person to push through. The large slabs along that entrance suggest a door, a threshold, a repeated choice about who may enter and who must stand outside in the rain. At the heart of a fort, that little room may have been a bedroom, a treasury or a prayer place, but its shape preserves more than memory: it preserves the act of separating one life from the rest.
Foundations of rectangular hut (max. dims. 4.7m NW-SE, 3.1m NE-SW) with entrance gap at SE (Wth 1.25m) faced with large slabs, situated in centre of ringfort (LH005-024001-). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 22 November 2011
