The Hurkling Stones are a coastal rock feature composed of Millstone Grit, part of the Carboniferous sedimentary rock formations, approximately 315 to 325 million years old. These rocks were formed from sandstone deposited in ancient river and delta systems, and the feature is notable for its prominent exposure and possible historical or local significance in the Sheffield area.
