According to Sir Richard Cox writing c. 1685, Ballyshonick, also known as Burtshall, was a fine stately house on the River Bride in what is now Sapperton (Walton 1987, 27). The land had been owned by Edmond Fitzgerald of Ballyshonick in 1641 but became part of the estate of Richard Burt in the 1650s (Simington 1942, 19). The location is unknown. Simington, R. C. (ed.)
