What is recorded here

A small rectangular house with two tall chimney stacks and annotated ‘Culleghtee’ [Killeter] is depicted to the N of the fording point of the Camlin River on the Down Survey (1655-6) map of Longford barony (NLI, MS 719). On the Down Survey (1655-6) map of Killoe parish (ibid.) this building is depicted as a ruinous tower house. The terrier of this map records that there stood in ‘Colloghter [Killeter] towneland a Stone House out of Repaire’ and that Garrett Farrell was the owner or chief tenant of these lands. The precise location of this house has not been identified. Aghaga Bridge now stands at the fording point marked on the Down Survey barony map. Compiled by: Patrick F.
