House

House, indeterminate date

What is recorded here

On the W-facing slope of Mount Leinster, in an area densely overgrown with bracken. A rectangular structure (ext. dims. 20m E-W; 5m N-S) identified by Séamus Ó Murchú on Bing satellite imagery (Ó Murchú 2016). This is not depicted on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map or on subsequent editions, suggesting it pre-dates 1840. Described as being in a severely collapsed state but appears to be a single storey house with outhouse on the E side (ibid.). When visited there was no evidence of an entrance, though it is likely that this had been blocked up to prevent sheep getting in (ibid.).
