In flat grassland with good views in all directions, castle site (TS058-040----) 270m to N and church and graveyard (TS058-060---- and TS058-060001-) 195m to SW. House (TS058-041002-) is located 3m to S. This house is located in the N quadrant of a ringfort (TS058-041001-) and consists of a raised rectangular area (int.dims. 10.5m N-S x 4.1m E-W) orientated on a N-S axis enclosed by an earth and stone bank (top Wth 0.8m; base Wth 2.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m) and outer fosse (top Wth 2.8m; base Wth 1.2m; ext. D 0.4m) with two possible entrance gaps (Wth 1.4m) opposite each other in the bank at N and S. The Civil Survey description of the lands of Kilcornan in 1640 describes an 'old castle irrepairable & some cabbins wast' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 364). It is possible that this reference is referring to the buildings within the ringfort, however this could also be a reference to an unlocated castle within the townland of Kilcornan. The two house footings within the ringfort do not appear to be the remains of a castle but are more likely to be domestic buidings of the ringfort.
