Detached five-bay single-storey house, built c.1850, having shallow three-bay breakfront to front (north-east) elevation and central return to rear. Hipped slate roof with red brick chimneystacks and clay chimneypots, terracotta ridge tiles and decorative ridge cresting. Projecting stone eaves supports, carved stone and timber eaves course and replacement rainwater goods. Coursed roughly squared sandstone and limestone walls with tooled squared sandstone block-and-start quoins. Gauged-brick square-headed window openings throughout, having red brick surrounds, tooled limestone sills and replacement six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows. Eight-over-eight pane timber sliding sash windows to rear. Gauged brick square-headed door opening to front with red brick surround and timber panelled door. Gauged brick square-headed door opening to south-east elevation of return having red-brick surround and timber battened door, opening onto stone platform with chamfered limestone surround.

The visual presence of this modestly-proportioned house is enhanced by its central breakfront, providing a sense of symmetry to the façade. Red brick detailing and tooled stone sills provide an interesting textural and tonal contrast to the coursed rubble walls whilst the roof ridge cresting provides further decorative interest. The timber sash windows enhance the heritage value. It is prominently sited beside a bridge and may have functioned as a toll house or gate lodge.
