What is recorded here

Formerly also in use as post office, now in use as outbuilding. Pitched corrugated-iron roof. Pitched slate roof to porch, having carved timber bargeboards. Smooth rendered walls to front elevation, roughcast rendered walls to side and rear elevations. Square-headed window openings with replacement uPVC windows, and painted masonry sills. Square-headed door opening with timber battened door. Yard, delineated at north by outbuildings, to front of building. Four-bay single-storey range of outbuildings, having pitched corrugated-iron roof to west end and pitched slate roof to east end, whitewashed rubble stone walls. Square-headed openings with timber battened doors. Entrance to yard to north, having rendered piers and wrought-iron double-leaf gate. Entrance to former post office to south, having rendered piers with roughcast rendered panels and pointed pediments to caps. Wrought-iron double-leaf gate. Set back from roadside, with roughcast rendered boundary wall.
A post office was operated here from the nineteenth century until 1956, first in the north part of the building and later in the south end, giving social significance to the building. Although it has lost its original windows, it retains some interior features such as the post office counter and shelves, which contribute to the character and in turn to the significance of the structure. Unusally, this former post office forms part of a vernacular yard, of interest in its own right for its simple forms and use of local natural materials.
