What is recorded here
Detached L-plan three-bay two-storey former officer's house, built 1939, with canted bay window. Now is use as private house. Later extension to rear (south). Hipped slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks and uPVC rainwater goods. Painted roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed openings with single and tripartite six-over-two, four-over-one and two-over-one timber sliding sash windows with concrete sills and rendered surrounds with decorative aprons. Square-headed door opening with timber glazed door and overlight. Concrete and stone steps to front. Surrounded by rubble limestone walls with rendered piers and wrought-iron gate.
This prominent house is an interesting addition to the island. The form and style of the building is dissimilar from the vernacular style of the traditional island dwellings. The tripartite timber sliding sash windows, render detailing and canted bay enliven the façade.
