This house is a fine example of a late nineteenth-century modest-scale residence that retains much of its original character and features. The treatment of the elevation is in keeping with the small scale of the building and comprises a front composed of graceful, balanced proportions on a symmetrical plan without extraneous detailing. Decorative incident is provided, however, in the round-headed door opening with a delicate fanlight and also in the treatment of the window openings that are graceful in their proportions. The hipped gabled roof is a slightly unusual feature on a building of this size and, the mineral felt notwithstanding, many early materials survive in situ, including the fenestration and door fittings. The gateway to the east is also of some artistic merit, complementing the ornate quality of the fanlight. Both gateway and house provide an attractive and prominent feature on the crossroads.
