Explorer Tom Mynydd Graig Goch sits at the south-western end of the Nantlle Ridge, looking as though it got the best seat in Eryri and is trying not to boast. Climb its broad shoulder from the Nebo side and the reward spreads out in several directions: mountain walls, small lakes, the Llŷn Peninsula and the Irish Sea all on show. The route described by local walking guides starts near Llyn Cwm Dulyn reservoir. A footbridge, a stile and a climbing track lead toward Bwlch Cwmdulyn before the way turns onto broken stone near the summit. That is a fine little adventure, though 'little' is doing some cheeky work: one published circuit is about six kilometres with roughly 400 metres of ascent. Your legs may file a complaint while your eyes insist on staying. Unlike some of the Nantlle Ridge's sharper tops, this hill offers a broad summit area and a comparatively gentle way up from the reservoir. The rocky upper ground still needs care, and a clear day makes route finding and the long views much easier. The westward outlook is particularly good when evening light reaches the sea; take a head torch if sunset is your plan, because dusk is not a navigation system. There is no staffed entrance or mountain-top café to blame for your coffee shortage. Check the weather, carry a map and layers, and leave time to return before dark. Parking at the reservoir is small, so respect the lanes and gates. Walk up for the view, pause by the old stone walls, and see how quickly this supposedly quiet corner turns into the main event. It has been practising its grand reveal all along.
