Thubber-Murrha, the Blessed Virgin's well, stood beside the Maudlin road until priests suppressed its June festival in 1838. The water stopped flowing soon after, as if the earth had withdrawn its gift, and the hole disappeared from memory. A common well opened opposite the vanished site, but it never carried the same charge. People still measure that loss by the dry ground where devotion once rose.

The OS Letters (1839) recorded that, 'There is a Patron held still on the 29th June at Lady's Well, about half a mile east of the church [of Kilmacar KK010-038001-] but this well is no longer to be seen' (O'Flanagan ed. 1930, vol. 1, 29 (10)). Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 201) describes it as, 'formerly a holy well call Thubber-Murrha, i.e. the Blessed Virgin's well, east of the church, on the right bank of the Glosha stream. It occupied the centre of a garden beside the road leading to Maudlin, on the left. About 1800, or a little later, the well was profaned and ran dry, and became, soon after, obliterated altogether. A great pattern was held here, on the 29th of June, till 1838, when the priests of the parish found it their duty to suppress it. Opposite the site of Thubber Murrha well, there is, on the other side of the public road, a well called Lady well, but it is not holy, and was only opened when the holy well went dry'. The holy well at Maudlin was associated with a patronal festival on 29 June, likely linked to St Peter, whose feast day is celebrated on that date. The well, known as Lady's Well, may have had connections to both St Peter and the Virgin Mary, reflecting a common blending of Christian and pre-Christian traditions in such sites.
