Holy well in Maínis

Close to LWM c. 150m W of southern tip of the island. Known locally as Tobar Cholmcille, it consists of an oval rockpool (L 2m). There is a vein of white quartz in the next rockpool to S. No offerings were noted but this well is more often frequented than GA076-015---- (info. T. Robinson). Not visited. Linked to Saint Columba (Colum Cille), the well is traditionally associated with healing and pilgrimage. Local folklore suggests that the quartz vein nearby may have contributed to the site's perceived spiritual or curative properties.
