Holy well in Corkagh More

Listed in the SMR (1998) as holy well (unlocated). Not listed in the RMP (1995). The OS Letters (1836, 310) record that ‘There is (was?) a well called Tobar Molais in the Townland of Corcaghmore which has been this long time dried up…’ O’Rorke (1889, vol. 2, 405) recorded that the well, dedicated to St. Molaisse, was located in the vicinity of a church (SL012-025001-) known as Templeboy Church, which is located to E of Corkagh More in the adjoining townland of Corcoransacres. The holy well, known as Tobar Molais, is associated with Saint Molaise, an early Irish Christian saint venerated in parts of County Dublin and Kildare. Traditionally linked to healing and protection, such wells were often sites of pilgrimage and local devotion, with offerings and rituals performed to invoke the saint’s intercession.
