Tobar na h-Aille, the Well of the Cliff, stood in pasture near the Abbey but lost its water and stopped receiving rounds before human memory faded. The clay may have swallowed the marble or the marble may have drifted away, leaving behind a hollow that once gave life. Forgetting is not the same as losing; the well still exists inside the story even when the story stops repeating its name.

In pasture, c. 210m NW of Abbey (14383). No surface trace remains. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 429) as holy well called 'Tobar na h-Aille (Well of the Cliff). Rounds have been discontinued and the well has been dry for years'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Linked to Saint Aille, the well was traditionally associated with healing and was known as Tobar na h-Aille. The practice of making rounds around the well has ceased, and it is now dry.
