Holy well in Ballymore Demesne

Situated towards the bottom of the N-facing slope of an ENE-WSW ridge. St. Bridget's holy well is thought to be buried beneath a large boulder just SE of the motte (WX016-014001-). Church (WX016-015001-) is c. 170m to the E. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 21 May, 2012

St. Bridget's holy well is associated with the veneration of St. Brigid of Kildare, a prominent early Irish Christian saint linked to healing and fertility. Traditionally, such wells were visited for their curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and women's health, and were often marked by local customs such as leaving clooties or making offerings.
