Holy well in Ballaghanoher

Unlocated holy wells within the townland of Ballaghanoher that are described in the nineteenth century OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927 vol. 2, 2). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Linked to Saint Gobnait, the holy well in Ballaghanoher was traditionally associated with cures for eye ailments and general healing. Local folklore suggests that the well was visited on specific feast days, with offerings of coins and cloth left as tokens of gratitude.
