Higgar Tor is a sandstone sea cliff or coastal rock feature, formed during the Permian period, around 290 to 250 million years ago, through the deposition and lithification of aeolian (wind-blown) sands. It is notable as part of the Magnesian Limestone and Upper Permian Sandstone formations, which are significant in the geological history of northern England.
