Headstone in Grove (shillelogher By.)

Headstone

What is recorded here

William Quenlin died in 1696, but his wife Onour and son Thomas followed him twenty-nine years later in 1725. Catrin, their daughter, erected the headstone in the Grove graveyard to hold them together across that long gap. She did not bury three strangers; she buried her own family timeline on one stone.
Associated with the medieval church (KK023-030001-) in Grove. Within the graveyard (KK023-030002-), Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 386) refers to a headstone with the inscription, 'Here lies ye body of William Quenlin who departed this life 1696 & also his wife Onour Quenlin al' Lanagin departed 1725. Thomas Quenlin their son departed 1725. Erected by Catrin Quenlin their daughter'. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 4 August 2021
