What is recorded here

Castle, unclassified in Grove (shillelogher By.) stands as a phantom limb on the Kilkenny landscape, visible only when the mind stretches across centuries. The Down Survey caught its shadow in 1655, but human memory may have forgotten the shape entirely. What is missing is not a gap, but a invitation: to imagine the room, the heat, the hands that built it before silence took the name.
A building, possibly a ruinous castle, is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of Sheelogher, ‘Sheelelogher’ (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin), in Tullohaune townland which equates with the modern townland of Grove. It is indicated as being immediately E of a church (KK023-030001-) and is likely to be the castle which occupied the castle-mound/motte (KK023-032----) which is associated with the deserted settlement (KK023-031001-) E of the medieval church. The castle is not visible at ground level.
