Joseph Bradshaw, a Cromwellian who seized Foulksrath Castle in 1653, lies beneath a narrow slab in Donaghmore graveyard. He came from Cheshire, died in 1673, and left behind a grave marked in English rather than Latin. The stone still stands among later headstones, witness to a man who took another man’s house and made it his own.

Noted by Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 84) in the graveyard (KK010-005002-) of Donaghmore church (KK010-005001-). A graveslab (L 1.1m; Wth 0.38m; T 8.8m) with an inscription in English in three parallel lines. Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 83) transcribes the inscription as, 'Heere lieth the body of Joseph Bradshaw late of Fouksrath, gentleman, Borne neere Northwitch in Cheshire deceased the 23rd of March, 1673'. He mentions that Bradshaw and two other Cromwellians were granted the forfeited estates of Philip Purcell of Foulksrath Castle, in 1653 (ibid.).(Cockerham 2009, 361) There are a number of early 18th-century headstones in the SW area of the graveyard, not all of which have legible inscriptions.
