What is recorded here
Entrance gates, built 1819, comprising vehicular entrance flanked by pedestrian entrances and having dressed limestone sweep walls to front. Main entrance has square-profile dressed and rusticated limestone piers with carved caps, having lion finial to south-west pier and obelisk to north-east, with decorative cast-iron double-leaf gate. Round-headed pedestrian entrances with dressed voussoirs, projecting keystones and carved imposts and having cast-iron gates. Detached four-bay single-storey gate lodge to north-east with projecting bay to front elevation, having hipped slate roof, rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and overhanging eaves, painted rendered walls with square-headed timber casement windows with concrete sills. Square-headed timber panelled half-glazed door to south-east elevation of projecting bay, approached by dressed and tooled limestone steps.
This entrance provides a notable feature along the road and is enhanced by the curved sweep walls. The piers are well executed and they, together with the finely crafted finials and arched pedestrian entrances, add elegance to the entrance. The finials are identical to those at nearby Kilmacoom. The gate lodge is characteristic of buildings of its type and era and adds context to the site.
