What is recorded here
Bothwell Castle stands in East Lothian as a sixteenth-century dovecot and town house, still marked on the official record though never described as open to visitors. Its stones may have held birds, tools or people, but no fact above names a single hand that built it or a single room it warmed. What is certain is that it survived long enough to be measured, mapped and remembered as a local shape rather than a lost one.
