Habitation site in Rockbarton (coshma By.)

In grassland on former bogland of Rockbarton Demesne. The westernmost of three habitation sites (LI031-080002/0003----) discovered in 1941 during turf cutting at Rockbarton bog (Mitchell and Ó Ríordáin 1942, 255). According to Mitchell and Ó Ríordáin the site was similar to nearby habitation site (LI031-080002-), however no burnt stone and ‘much of the central area had been cut away; its original extent was estimated at 20 sq m. Pieces of pottery and scraps of flint were found” (ibid. 256, 258). The monument is not visible on aerial photography. See attached plan of the site marked Site III by Mitchell and Ó Ríordáin.
