Habitation site in Ardnehue

Habitation site

What is recorded here

Medieval kitchen refuse in Ardnehue, County Carlow, waiting under soil since people stopped chipping bones and tossing them away. Nineteenth-century digging pulled that ordinary trash into light, proving the area lived quietly before records arrived. Forgetting is common; remembering is rare, and this is one of the rare ones.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Medieval kitchen refuse uncovered during nineteenth-century digging (JRSAI 1864, 117-22).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
