Limestone setts to streetscape having mild steel narrow-gauge railway-tracks, laid c.1875.

The setts with inset railway-tracks contribute to the character of the industrial urban landscape in the Guinness brewery complex. The brewery was founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness, and expanded with the purchase of land to the north of James's Street in 1873. The narrow-gauge railway provided an infrastructure connecting the brewery buildings in this much expanded site, and also connected the brewery with the River Liffey and Heuston Station. Cobblestones or setts are a traditional means of finishing roads and yards employing locally-sourced natural materials.
