Graveyard in Urney

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Urney Graveyard holds fragmentary church remains and 18th or 19th century headstones inside a square stone wall. Neglect has widened the gaps between what is known and what is lost, yet the wall still marks the edge of a place where people were remembered.
Very fragmentary remains of a church (OF026-028001-) within a much neglected graveyard. Square shaped graveyard with 18th/19th-century headstones enclosed by a stone wall. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
