Graveyard in Mondrehid

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Mondrehid is a hidden graveyard in County Laois, Ireland. O'Hanlon and O'Leary wrote about it in 1907, yet no grave, marker or boundary remains visible. The land may have swallowed its own history, leaving only a low place where memory still gathers.
Situated in a low-lying area. Reference to Graveyard here (O'Hanlon and O'Leary, 1907, vol. 1, 196-197). No visible surface remains. No graveyard area indicated on current edition of the OS 6-inch map. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
