Graveyard in Lisheeneenaun West,lisheeneenaun East

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Lisheeneenaun East and West contain a hidden graveyard and church fragment that O'Donovan recorded but local memory has since lost. The place escapes maps and modern recall, preserving only the shape of what disappeared. It is a graveyard now owned by forgetting, where the dead themselves have been buried twice.
O'Donovan recorded in the OS Letters (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 2, 601) that there was 'an old burying place [GA113-148002-] in Lisheeneynaun T. L. (Lisín Eidhneáin)' where, he was informed, there was 'some portion of an old church [GA113-148001-] still visible'. Neither are recorded on the OS 6-inch maps. Local enquiries in Lisheeneenaun East and Lisheeneenaun West proved fruitless in revealing any further information about them or where they were located.
