Graveyard

What is recorded here

Killeenrevagh is a lost graveyard in County Mayo, Ireland, where the hand of cultivation removed the church, grave-yards and bones. The 1838 OS Letters record local claims that churches once stood in Kilrush and Killeenrevagh, but no exact location remains. What is left is a hole in the landscape, marked only by the memory that people were buried there and the fields swallowed them.
The 1838 OS Letters record a possible church (MA111-081001-) and graveyard in Killeenrevagh townland: 'The people say that there were churches in the Townlands of Kilrush and Killeenrevagh, but the hand of cultivation has removed them and their grave-yards and bones.' (O’Flanagan 1927, 218 (85)). The exact location is unknown. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 24 February 2023
