Graveyard in Kilgobbin

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Kilgobbin Graveyard lies buried under Stepaside Golf Course in County Dublin, a flat expanse where manicured grass has smothered an old burial ground south-west of the Jamestown cross. The living now drive carts across the sleeping dead, unaware that every swung club strikes at forgotten bones. What was sacred became recreational, the dead rendered invisible by the hunger of the living for open space.
This site is located in a flat area, which has been heavily landscape due to its location within Stepaside Golf Course. A levelled area identified as a burial ground SW of the cross at Jamestown (DU026-004004-; Turner 1983, 64; Goodbody 1993, 10). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout and Padraig Clancy. Revised upload on: 2 April 2018.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
