Graveyard in Chanonrock

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Kilmalloo hides a graveyard dedicated to St. Mollua, though no marker or gate reveals the exact boundary today. The name itself preserves the memory of an early church where people once gathered to pray, bury their dead, and witness the continuity of life in County Louth. What is missing is not nothing; it is the part that has slipped beneath grass, road noise and forgotten fields. To walk there is to meet a place that stopped announcing itself but never stopped existing.
Ross (1992, 427-9) suggests that this area, known as Kilmalloo, is the site of an early church and graveyard dedicated to St. Mollua. The precise location is not known. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 13 December 2011
