Graveyard in Ballycummin

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Graveyard in Ballycummin, County Roscommon, Ireland: Ballycummin is a townland in the barony of Middle County Roscommon, and the area has a graveyard. Whether the graveyard belongs to Ballycummin or flows into Kilcock is no longer clear. The boundary may have moved, the road may have changed, or the names may have been written down lazily. What remains true is that death was common enough in that country to need a repeated answer, and the answer was a place set aside for the dead.
There is a reference to a church (RO018-027001-) and burial ground at Ballycummin (Shaw-Mason 1816, 401-2). This may refer to (RO018-013001-) in the adjacent townland of Kilcock but is otherwise unknown. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
