Graveslab in Kiltinan

Within the chancel of Kiltinan church (TS070-101001-), 3.1m E of the E wall of the tower. A badly weathered sandstone slab (L 1.11m; Wth at top 0.36m; Wth at base 0.22m; T 0.22m) which tapers towards the base Maher (1997, 64). Maher (1997, 64) describes the decoration as consisting 'of three parallel grooves which form a double outline cross-stem. The outer examples emanate from a rectangular panel, while the central groove begins at the top of this panel, thus dividing it. In each of these halves is one short line. The outer grooves of the cross-stem together form the rectangular panel. A grooved border, .25m in width, runs close to the edge of the slab. Only traces remain on the sinister side. There is no evidence to suggest that the slab bore an inscription'. A similar graveslab (TS070-101008-) is located 4.5m to the N. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 4 December 2012
