Graveslab in Grangefertagh

In the N chapel of the medieval church at Grangefertagh (KK008-047001-). According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 292-3), this chapel was built by the MacGillapatrick/Kilpatrick family in the 15th or early 16th century. This sandstone graveslab is lying 1m from the S wall and 1.65m from the W wall of the N chapel. It is a tapering slab (Wth at top 0.37m; Wth at base 0.29m; L 0..87m; T 0.12m), though the slab is horizontally broken across the slab beneath the cross head. It is decorated in raised relief with a four-armed trefoil-headed cross, with a trefoil terminal at the base of the cross shaft. The top edge of the slab has a raised moulding (0.025m) and the side has a chamfer, splaying outwards (Wth 0.07-0.09m). Stylistically the graveslab dates to the 13th/14th century.
