Graveslab in Gowran

Lying on the floor in the NE corner of a 19th-century C of I church which was built on the former chancel of the 13th-century church of St Mary’s (KK020-060006-) in Gowran. A badly damaged straight-sided limestone slab, broken horizontally into three pieces. The surface of the upper sinister portion is broken away. The dexter side of the slab is missing as is the lower sinister corner. The slab is decorated with a worn cross in raised relief. It has a simple four-armed cross-head with fleur-de-lis terminals. There is an oval knop beneath the cross-head. The cross-shaft appears to terminate without a cross-base. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 16 September 2019
