What is recorded here

Graveslab in Gowran lies prostrate in the nave of the 13th-century church of St Mary’s, a tapering sandstone slab with no visible decoration or inscription. Its top sinister corner is missing, and its smooth chamfered edge suggests careful making rather than rough dumping. The absence of a name does not empty it; it withholds identification and invites imagination about the person it marked.

Lying prostrate in the nave (2.65m N of the S wall and 6.8m W of the E wall of the S aisle) of the 13th-century church of St Mary’s (KK020-060006-) in Gowran. A tapering sandstone slab (L 1.58m; max. Wth at top 0.53m; surface Wth at top 0.44m; max. Wth at base 0.4m; surface Wth at base 0.3m; D 0.15m) with a concave chamfer around the upper edge. The top sinister corner of the slab is missing.
