What is recorded here

Graveslab in Fennagh marks a sixteenth-century burial in County Carlow, yet no amount of modern searching has recovered the exact stone. That absence is not a failure, but a shape of the place: a life was recorded, forgotten, and buried again under ordinary ground. The region keeps its dead twice, once in memory and once beneath the soil.

Reference in the Irish Memorials Association (vol. 11, no. 3, p. 124) to a graveslab dating to the 16th century in 'Fenagh churchyard'. Not located by ASI when carrying out fieldwork in 1987. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 19 August 2011
