Half a dozen coffin-shaped slabs lie southwest of the ruined Dungarvan church porch, each bearing an incised cross and some carving human heads in relief. They mark graves from the medieval period when the church stood active, yet they never named the dead or explained who chisel-cut those faces into stone. The heads stare upward through centuries of rain and forgetting, waiting for a story that never reached them.

Within the graveyard associated with the medieval church of Dungarvan (KK024-068002-), c. 10-15m SW of the porch of the ruined Church of Ireland church. Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 418) noted within the graveyard, ‘about half-a-dozen coffin-shaped, uninscribed slabs, all with incised crosses, and some with carvings in relief of human heads’.
