What is recorded here
A recumbent rectangular slab (L 1.83m; Wth 0.89m) on the floor of the chancel of Baltinglass Abbey (WI027-024001-), lying E-W with the head to W. The surface is very badly spalled. A framed coat-of-arms in a recess at the top appears to comprise a shield surmounted by a helmet and mantling. Noted in November 1896 (Fitzgerald 1906-8, 411) as having an inscription in small incised capitals which read: ‘Here lyeth the body of Robert Stratford Esqr who departed this life on the 26th of October 1699.’ Only a few letters are still visible.
