What is recorded here

Grave Yd. (Disused) was a tidal island church in Lough Swilly, dating from the 12th or 13th century, now vanished without a visible trace. Its graveyard and building disappeared when worship moved to Ramelton in the early 17th century, carrying with them a small carved window-head and the memory of burials made on shifting water. What remains is absence itself: a place so complete in its loss that even the ground has stopped answering.

There is now no trace of the church or graveyard which formerly stood here. The church was replaced by another in Ramelton town in the early 17th century. A small, carved, window-head (DG037-021002-) is said to have been removed there from the island (Kinahan 1885-6, 424). The site which was located on a small tidal island in Lough Swilly probably dates from at least the 12th/13th century.
