Grave Yard

Recorded by the Urban Survey (Bradley and King 1989, 70) as ‘the church is said to be of seventeenth century in date but it is covered in pebbledash and the interior is plastered. It is a single aisled building with a west tower. The interior is lit by three round headed windows with chamfered granite jambs in each wall. It has a stone flagged floor in which there are some early eighteenth century memorials. Remains of a fifteenth century church (WI025-012003-) have been seen in the north side of the graveyard when graves are being dug (JRSAI cii (1972), 100). The dedication has been a matter of dispute between SS Mantan, Thomas and Patrick. In 1468 it is referred to as St Patrick’s church Wykenglo (MacNeill 1950, 244). Date of upload: 22 October 2012
