What is recorded here

In western suburbs of Cork city; almost square graveyard (c. 40m E-W; c. 35m N-S) enclosed by high stone wall. Some low uninscribed gravemarkers in SE corner; many inscribed headstones, the earliest noted dating from mid-18th century. Still in use. Formerly contained 'the old parish church of Blackrock' (O' Donoghue 1986, 210); according to Windele (1910, 172), church here 'erected in 1392 by the Knights Templars, which was afterwards granted to the Prior and brethren of Gill-abbey' but there is no mention of any such foundation in Gwynn and Hadcock (1988).
