Built by the Romans in the 1st or 2nd century AD, Grain Fort was part of the defensive network protecting the River Medway and the nearby town of Durobrivae. It is important as a rare example of Roman military infrastructure in the region, highlighting the strategic significance of the Medway estuary in Roman Britain.
